Audi goes 1-2 in Silverstone FP2

Audi continues to flex their muscles in the practices leading up to this weekend's season-opener.

Audi Sport Team Joest placed 1-2 in the second Free Practice session at Silverstone this afternoon.

Benoit Treluyer, driving the #7 Audi R18 e-tron quattro set a best lap of 1m41.526s to better Oliver Jarvis’ earlier time by just 0.298s. Jarvis, racing on home ground, had set several quick laps earlier in the session before handing over to team mates Lucas Di Grassi and Loic Duval.

Porsche and Toyota

The Porsche Team emerged third and fourth with the No.17 Porsche 919 Hybrid ahead of the #18 sister car. Toyota continued to struggle for outright pace with their new Toyota TS 040 HYBRID. The No.2 Toyota was fifth ahead of the No.1 car, with both cars continuing to explore the significantly updated TS 040 HYBRID.

LMP2

G-Drive Racing again took a 1-2 in the LMP2 class. WEC rookie ‘Pipo’ Derani set a very rapid 1m48.676s lap, which eclipsed this morning’s time which was set by his team mate Gustavo Yacaman.

Sam Bird set a 1m49.315s lap to place the #26 Ligier-Nissan. Nick Tandy set the third best lap in LMP2 with a 1m50.062 in the new ORECA 05 LMP2 coupe. Sunday’s race will be Tandy’s first in the class as he shares the French built car with fellow Brits Richard Bradley and Matt Howson.

GTE-Pro

Porsche Team Manthey swept to a 1-2 in LMGTE Pro with the No.91 Porsche 911 RSR leading the similar No.92car. Austrian racer Richard Lietz claimed the best time of 2m01.499s, while Frederic Makowiecki was in the No.92 cockpit.

GTE-Am

The No.98 Aston Martin Racing Vantage V8 led the way in the LMGTE Am class with Pedro Lamy setting a 2m02.434s lap to outpace the SMP Racing Ferrari 458 Italia and the No.96 Aston Martin Vantage V8.

The final Free Practice session gets underway at 09.00 tomorrow morning.
