CHRYSLER PLAYSTATION LMP IN THE EUROPEAN LE MANS SERIES

Bicester, UK, Monday 12th March 2001: ORECA has today confirmed that it is entering the brand new Chrysler Playstation LMP in the European Le Mans Series race at Donington Park over the Easter weekend (13-14th April). The prototype will be piloted by Olivier Beretta and Yannick Dalmas and will race in the highly competitive LMP900 class against the likes of the Audi R8 and Panoz. The Chrysler ORECA partnership brings some formidable credentials to the Championship, it has dominated the GTS class in the American Le Mans Series with the Viper GTS-R for the past two years winning both the manufacturer and driver titles. Between 1997 and 2000 the Chrysler ORECA Viper won over 40 races and came first in its class at Le Mans in 1998, 1999 and 2000. The Mopar V8 engine will power the Chrysler LMP in its first competitive race on UK soil.

The confirmation that the Chrysler LMP will race in the ELMS at Donington Park brings yet another manufacturer with such a strong sportscar pedigree into the fold. Seen as a Le Mans shakedown, the race offers the British public their only chance to see all four categories of Le Mans cars before the 24-hours French Classic.
