Montoya, who is a guest of Porsche at COTA today, is expected to test the car in the next two months.
Porsche LMP Director of Race Operations Andreas Siedl worked with Montoya at the Williams F1 team in 2003-4. Porsche’s Head of LMP, Fritz Enzinger, also worked with Montoya in F1 with BMW a decade ago.
“We have always kept in contact and he follows what we are doing closely,” Siedl told Motorsport.com.
“Juan Pablo is very interested in this type of racing and he has some experience from his Daytona wins, so he knows the way to work with a team of other drivers. I think he would be a big asset to any endurance team.”
“We discussed a testing possibility today for later this year," stated Siedl. “It’s cool and we will have to see where things go from there, after a test.”
Porsche brought Mark Webber back to Le Mans from Formula 1 with its 919 programme, as well as facilitating Nico Hulkenberg's victory in the 24 Hours this year on his debut.
Montoya told Motorsport.com: "It is possible to soon make a test with them. The purpose of this trip was to visit, come and meet the team. It's been fun because I met many people with whom I worked [in F1].
"But I am happy where I am, and in the future we'll see later."
