Nissan to run FRICS system in COTA test

Harry Tincknell and Olivier Pla are carrying out an extensive test this week at the Circuit of the Americas.

FRICS systems have been used on LMP1 cars for the last two seasons, with Porsche running a system from the start of its programme, while Audi has run a similar system on its 2015-spec R18 etron quattro since Silverstone back in April.

Nissan confirmed to Motorsport.com before the Le Mans 24 Hours that its new updates would be ready to test ahead of Nurburgring with a number of days scheduled at COTA.

Nissan boss Darren Cox also said at Le Mans that "the rest of the year is going to be tough" but that it was essential for Nissan to prepare properly for 2016. 

All four of the LMP1 WEC manufacturers will back on track this week with testing on two different continents taking place ahead of the fourth round of the 2015 season at Nurburgring on August 30.

While Porsche, Audi and Toyota head to Nurburgring for two days of testing, Nissan has opted for COTA, a circuit it has plenty of existing data from previous runs to try and find additional pace in the revolutionary Nissan GT-R LM NISMO.

Motorsport.com understands that the team will evaluate the latest revisions to the cars before making a final call on its attendance in Germany next month.
