Nissan won't race again in the WEC until 2016

The Japanese manufacturer was weighing up the possibility of returning for the Shanghai and Bahrain races in November after recent improvements were made in testing.

2015 has seen a campaign fraught with technical problems on the innovative front-engined racer, with just the Le Mans 24 Hours undertaken on what was initially supposed to be a full two-car WEC campaign.

Since the end of August the car has been put through a rigorous testing programme in the US, and significant improvements have been made on the Ben Bowlby designed car despite the car not running with a KERS system.

A re-shuffle in the team management that has been applied with immediate effect sees the appointment of Michael Carcamo, who joins the operation as Team Principal from his role as Director of Vehicle Project Management for Nissan Mexico to NISMO.

Carcamo has racing experience, having been a trackside engineer for Ilmor in CART between 1997-2002. He has worked in a variety of positions at Nissan North America and Nissan Mexico for 13 years.

Former team principal Ben Bowlby is set to concentrate on heading the engineering R&D of the GT-R NISMO concept and enable it to be a more competitive proposition for the 2016 season.

Motorsport.com understands that the Nissan operation has chosen a replacement energy-retrieval system to replace the original ToroTrak unit, which in testing ultimately led to the majority of the Nissan GT-R NISMO problems.
