Steady Progress Made

Care Racing's Prodrive Ferrari team worked through an extensive programme of set up changes on both cars this evening with the aim of finding a fast, balanced race car for Saturday's 72nd running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Ferrari 550s were 3rd and 5th in class by midnight, with Tomas Enge and Darren Turner having set the fastest times for each car - Turner's during the first session, and Enge's in darkness during the second.

All the drivers were satisfied that progress had been made throughout the four hours of running, and all completed their compulsory timed laps in daylight and darkness. There were no major technical concerns for the team, which is happy to be back in competition for the first time in 2004.

Prodrive Ferrari Team Director, George Howard-Chappell: "It was a difficult evening. The cars were not quite where we expected them to be at the start of the first session and we had to tune them in during the evening. There was a lot of dirt on the track so that had some affect on all the times. We clearly worked on race set up and balance and we will go for some fast qualifying lap times if the weather allows us tomorrow."

Tomas Enge: "We didn't want to show all our potential this evening, and the dirty track made it difficult to do that anyway. Tomorrow I'm sure we will be right there."

Colin McRae: "We made progress through the evening and are pretty close now to where we want to be with the car. It was quite difficult to jump into the car at night as it's difficult to see clearly in some places and you have to re-find all your braking points so it takes a few laps to be able to get fully up to speed again. The track was very, very dirty and there were a lot of slower cars on the track at night - but good practice for tomorrow."

Peter Kox: "I'm reasonably happy with what we saw today from a race point of view. We tried to improve the balance on the car and will try for some times tomorrow, but for the moment it's going pretty well."

Alain Menu: "I had a little bit of twitch going into the right hand Porsche Curves and I got onto the marbles and the car got sideways. Rather than hit a wall, I controlled it into a spin. I also kissed the Armco earlier in the evening which caused a puncture, and then a quick trip over some gravel when my foot slipped off the brake pedal, so all in all I can't remember having had such a bad day!"

Rickard Rydell: "I think we've found quite a lot in the car since the start of the evening and now we are in much better shape for tomorrow and can hopefully do a good time in qualifying."

Darren Turner: "I think we are finally getting in the right direction with the set up of the car which is good, and I think by tomorrow we'll have had a look at where we can go from there and be in a comfortable position. It was nice to get back out in the dark, I enjoyed it even though it wasn't for many laps."
