The German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke discarded at the second season event of the long track world championships WEC after troubles with the gear box – „Now concentration to Laguna Seca“

Berlin/Spa-Francorchamps (rol/ot) That has been a short „delight“, which the German sports car pilot Stefan Mücke had at the second season event of the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) at the 6 hour race in Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium). The Berlin, who was on the podium on position three (GTE-Pro-Class) at the season opening at the middle of March at the 12 hours of Sebring (USA) together with his Aston Martin works driver colleagues Darren Turner (Great Britain) and Adrian Fernandez (Mexico), reached position three of his class at the Qualifying on Friday (4th of May) with the Vantage GTE.

At the beginning everything seemed well to reach the podium again in Spa, because when the race started on Saturday (5th of May), Turner took the lead in their class at first, before after about 30 minutes he had to drive into the pit because of gear box troubles and then team was forced to withdraw the car and Stefan Mücke wasn’t behind the wheel at all that day. „Of course this is very sad and disappointing, but to change the gear box is not permitted at a WEC race“, the Berlin explained. „We had good progress since the run in Sebring and the test drives at Spa with the car and even with that breakdown we are still optimistic for the season highlight, the 24 hours of Le Mans.“

For the 30 year old Berlin, now the focus is on coming weekend (11 th/12th of May), where he will take part at a six hour race of the American Le Mans Series (ALMS) in Laguna Seca (USA) with the Vantage GTE and his colleagues Turner and Fernandez. Last year he was vice champion of the GT1 World championships together with Darren Turner. „I am really looking forward to that. First of all because of the admirable track, yet secondly because of the nice memories of last year“, Stefan Mücke said. That time he won this race together with Turner and Swiss Harold Primat in the LMP1 sports car prototype. And one week later already the Berlin will be on track at the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring at the 24 hour race (19th/20th of May) in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
