24 Hours of Le Mans, H+8: Team ORECA-Matmut still on top in LMP2 !
Tyre changes and refueling: the #48 ORECA 03 continues its race without problems.
Alexandre Prémat, Dominik Kraihamer and David Hallyday are running first in their class, one lap ahead.
The Team ORECA-Matmut ORECA 03 has completed a third of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the lead. Since the start of the race, the prototype designed and built in Signes continues to lap the Sarthe circuit in the hands of Alexandre Prémat, Dominik Kraihamer and David Hallyday.
Leading after Alexandre Prémat’s quintuple stint, the #48 ORECA 03 did not encounter any issues from the fourth to eighth hours. Dominik Kraihamer and David Hallyday completed solid triple and double stints, respectively.
“This time, it’s done! I’ve completed my first race stint in the 24 Hours of Le Mans,” declared Dominik Kraihamer, with a smile. “ This triple stint was really cool. I wasn’t very successful with the traffic at the beginning, but I think everyone has this kind of trouble. Sometimes, I preferred to lose a few seconds than to take risks. The car is quick and consistent. It’s hard to find the words to describe my debut at Le Mans!”
“As night fell, it wasn’t always very easy,” notes David Hallyday, making his return to prototypes. “I had to get used to this particular conditions. Besides the traffic, which is really difficult to manage, my stints went well. The sunset at Le Mans is a little like a postcard. The car is handling well, despite a little understeer. I’m still enjoying myself a lot behind the wheel.”
Race Action.
After starting the race from the third position in LMP2, Alexandre Prémat slips into second on the first lap. He continues to make his way forward and finds first place before the end of the first hour. After a safety car period lasting more than an hour, the Team ORECA-Matmut ORECA 03 continues its excellent pace and widens the gap. After a quintuple stint, Alex’ has a two minute lead. Dominik Kraihamer takes over at the controls at the very end of the fourth hour. During a triple stint, he continues the work started by his teammate and when he hands the car over to David Hallyday at the quarter mark, the gap to second place in LMP2 is now more than a lap. David, during his double stint, maintains this gap before being replaced by Alexandre Prémat. The race has since been under safety car after an accident in LMP1.
