DIRT MOTORSPORTS VP PUBLIC RELATIONS CHRIS DOLACK NAMED NATIONAL SPRINT CAR HALL OF FAME "MEDIA PERSON OF THE YEAR"
NORMAN, OK, December 5, 2005 / Business Wire / DIRT MotorSportsTM (DIRT) (OTCBB: BMSR) VP Public Relations Chris Dolack was voted "Media Person of the Year" by the North American 410 Sprint Car Poll voting panel of media members, promoters, sanctioning officials and manufacturers. The North American 410 Sprint Car Poll is an annual awards program of the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum Foundation, Inc., of Knoxville, IA.
"Chris is highly respected by teams and promoters within the industry and we are very proud of his work with the series," said Paul A. Kruger, DIRT Chairman and CEO. "This prestigious honor is a great reflection of the work he's done on the road following the World of Outlaws Sprint Series® in 2005.
"Promoting Chris to Vice President of Public Relations for DIRT will have a significant effect on the level and quality of coverage on both a local and national level."
The nominees for the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame honor also included The Outdoor Channel World of Outlaws Sprint Series broadcast commentator Brad Doty, Dave Argabright from National Speed Sport News, and Doug Auld from Sprint Car and Midget.
"I was truly honored just to be a finalist with Dave, Doug and Brad," said Dolack. "Those are some heavy-hitters in the sprint car media. I've particularly enjoyed the opportunity to hang around Brad behind the scenes this season as he provided his unique perspective of the World of Outlaws races on the Outdoor Channel.
"My job was certainly made easier because of the help from John Gibson, as well as each of the teams. What these drivers do night in and night out is amazing, and for me it was just fun to have a chance to watch them compete and write about it.
"I joked at the midpoint of the season that I felt like a local racer who stepped up his program to run nationally, but it was fun to work with writers, reporters and photographers across the country. From the group of guys at Williams Grove to my old friends in Pittsburgh and at Lernerville, to the Dayton Daily News' Greg Billings and his work at Eldora, to the Des Moines Register's Rob Gray and his coverage of Knoxville, the people in Las Vegas and the group on the West Coast, it was in essence a massive grassroots effort by all these people to try to spread the word about the World of Outlaws Sprint Series to their readers. We have to continue giving all these people the tools to build on as we go forward to gain the national presence we all know dirt track racing deserves."
As VP Public Relations, Dolack has lead DIRT's efforts to not only expand coverage of the national, regional and weekly touring series, but to improve conditions for his fellow reporters who cover these events. One of the major improvements slated for 2006 is a state-of-the-art Mobile Media Center that will travel with the World of Outlaws Sprint Series. The center will feature a Ground Control Systems high-speed Magellan MSS Mobile Satellite Internet System and wireless hot spot, video and timing monitors linked with DIRTvision.com™ and AMB i.t. timing systems, DirecTV access, and most importantly a consistent place for the media to work and transmit their stories, photos and video no matter where the series is competing.
"I really don't think you could have picked a better person to cover the series," said Craig Dollansky, who drove the VMAC/Karavan Motorsports J&J to a third-place finish in 2005 World of Outlaws Sprint Series championship standings and is a member of the 2006 World of Outlaws Sprint Series Mean 15. "And in his new role as Vice President of PR for DIRT I think Chris can really help to enhance the exposure of the series on a national level."
Dolack has been hooked on racing since he watched Bobby Unser hold off Mario Andretti to win the 1981 Indianapolis 500. He was later able to turn his passion for the sport and its personalities into a career as a newspaper and magazine writer, editor and designer. As an editor at Auto Racing Digest, he brought the World of Outlaws to the magazine's readership several times before shifting to Western Pennsylvania and a role at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. There he was able to combine his skills as an editor and designer by covering the many short tracks in the region, including Lernerville Speedway, and producing a weekly racing page that carried his column. In 2001, Lernerville honored him with the Bill Steinbach Media Award for his support and promotion of auto racing through his column at the Post-Gazette.
In addition to reporting on weekly racing in Western Pennsylvania and DIRT MotorSports, Dolack has covered NASCAR Nextel Cup Series, the IRL IndyCar Series, Champ Car and NHRA PowerAde Series events -- and he even worked a race on an ARCA team's pit crew just for a unique story angle.
In 2005, he has spent the season on the road with the World of Outlaws Sprint Series, describing and photographing the action as well as working with media members in towns where the series competes and keeping the World of Outlaws Sprint Series Web site up to date with the latest information from the "Greatest Show on Dirt."
