Craig Dollansky caps wild weekend in victory lane
Elk River, MN (April 19, 2004) -- Craig Dollansky and his team have never lacked the desire to put the VMAC 7 into victory lane. This was never more evident as the team overcame tremendous adversity by turning a negative into a positive in back to back nights over this last weekend.
Friday night (the 16th) Craig was fast out of the gate as he timed in second with a quick lap of 16.125. A Heat 2 finish of 4th and a Dash 1 finish of 3rd set the VMAC 7 into the inside second row (3rd starting spot) in the A Main feature. Dollansky battled the 4M of Shane Stewart for the lead until lap 20 when the Kistler-powered Maxim pulled underneath in Turn 4 into the front stretch for the lead. Dollansky pulled away and was set to take the checkers for his first win of 2004 until he pulled between two lapped cars in Turn 3 of Lap 23. The 50D of Jason Johnson ended the night for the dejected VMAC squad by coming down with his left front tire onto the right rear of Dollansky, effectively destroying the car and a nearly guaranteed chance at victory.
All was not lost for a determined VMAC squad, as was proven in a performance that was fitting for the "Show Me State." A back-up car was pulled from the top of the VMAC hauler for Saturday night's event at I-55 Speedway in Pevely, Missouri. D.J. Lindsey and Rod Fauver went to work setting up a car that, before this given night, has had rather unimpressive results for 2004. Dollansky went out onto the high-banked 1/3-mile oval and set a fast time of 10.591, good for 5th. Multiple changes went into trying to properly set up a car capable of victory. After a Heat 4 place of second and a Dash 2 finish of second, Dollansky stormed the field in the A Main. The VMAC 7, relatively unchallenged for the duration of the race, maintained a steady pace to conserve his Hoosier tires and crossed the finish line in first place, leading all 40 laps.
Team members felt a range of emotions leading up to the pinnacle of the best possible results in Pevely, Missouri. Craig Dollansky capped it off with a salute to those that support him in victory lane, and to his team. "I have had some great people along the way to work with, but this crew is evolving into the best I've ever had," stated Dollansky.
Coverage of the victory will continue this week on www.dollanskyracing.com. A full film and video crew followed the team during the weekend and taped the activity as it unfolded. In-depth analysis and special perspectives will also follow to top off a wildly successful and rewarding weekend for Karavan Dollansky Racing.
