Lasoski dominates in Terre Haute to pad point lead after one-third of season.
"The Dude" continues supremacy of Indiana oval with feature victory.
CONCORD, NC (June 13, 2002) -- With one-third of the 2002 Pennzoil World of Outlaws schedule completed, Danny "The Dude" Lasoski looks like he is on his way to capturing his second-straight WoO Championship. Right now he is tearing up the open-wheel dirt short track ranks. It hasn't been an easy ride for Lasoski though, as he and fellow competitors Mark and Steve Kinser have traded the lead 10 times between the three of them after 28 "A" feature events to date. Lasoski did put an exclamation point on the battle last weekend in Terre Haute (IN) by dominating the events at the "Action Track."
Lasoski, driving the number 20 Tony Stewart Motorsports / J.D. Byrider machine, captured his seventh "A" feature win in Terre Haute in style! He led all 30 laps after starting from the outside pole, a result of his eighth O'Reilly Auto Parts Dash win of the season. Like many other races this season, Lasoski had to battle Mark Kinser to the checkers.
"I knew Mark would be tough starting on the pole, but my guys gave me a great car and we just drove it into (turns) one and two as hard as we could," said Lasoski, who qualified second and finished third in his heat race. "After the last couple of weekends we have had, I have to thank Eagle Chassis, Kistler Engines, Hoosier Tires, Massey Motorsports, American Compressed Steel, (crew chief) Jimmy Carr and just everybody that helps us out. It's been unbelievable, but that's what hard work and determination can do for you."
The series was in a midwestern stretch last weekend. The WoO Warriors competed at the unique Farmer City Speedway on Friday night. Lasoski didn't fair quite as well at the tight quarter-mile track. He qualified fifth and finished in the same spot in the feature.
"Racing on tracks like those two is what the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series is all about," said Lasoski. "Those tracks have both a top and a bottom grove and that makes for some great racing. The fans really get to see what we mean when we say that the World of Outlaws is the 'Greatest Show on Dirt' when they come to watch us here."
After one-third of the year, the Tony Stewart Motorsports / J.D. Byrider team couldn't have asked for much more production from Lasoski. In the 28 "A" features, Lasoski has seven wins, 20 top five's and 24 top 10's. He has also won two preliminary features and collected more than $155,000 in earnings. His eight O'Reilly Dash wins and 147 "A" feature laps led are second only to Steve Kinser. He leads the series with eight fast qualifier distinctions.
"The Dude" and the rest of the team are back in action this weekend for a big Heartland-region showdown. The WoO Series will sanction the 97 Country Outlaws Nationals at O'Reilly Auto Parts Motor Speedway in Topeka, KS, on Friday and Saturday nights.
