Danny Lasoski weekly update 2002-06-29

CONCORD, NC (June 29, 2002) -- While Danny "The Dude" Lasoski knows how to win on the racetrack, this week he proved he could win off of it as well. "The Dude's" annual charity golf tournament, the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation Golf Tournament, raised more than $63,000 on Tuesday. It was a good week for Lasoski, as in addition to the successful golf tournament, he pulled even closer to the Pennzoil World of Outlaw points lead with victories on Monday in Topeka, KA and Wednesday at his home track in Sedalia, MO. All of that is great, considering the WoO Series is heading into the legendary Knoxville (IA) Raceway this weekend, a place Lasoski has dominated at during his career.

The fifth annual golf tournament raised in excess of $63,000 for the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation and the Bay Cliff Health Camp. The camp provides care for children who have special physical needs and allows them to go to a camp that they may otherwise be unable to attend. Tony Ross, president of American Compressed Steel, and Lasoski flew to Michigan after the race in Sedalia to donate the money to Bay Cliff Health Camp. Many WoO drivers helped make the tournament a huge success.

"This has been a pretty good week," Lasoski said. "To win at Topeka Monday, and then have our golf tournament (Michael Ross Memorial Foundation) be so successful Tuesday. Then my nephew, Brian Brown, won the 360's before our race in Sedalia, and now a win in front of my hometown crowd. Well, it doesn't get any better than this!"

"My crew chief, Jimmy Carr, is the best in the business. All my guys worked their butts off yesterday. They didn't even get to come play golf to give me an awesome car here tonight. Maybe this kind of makes up for the major driver error at Eagle Saturday night. I hit the wall there and it cost us the points lead, but there's still a long way to go in the season."

On Monday, Lasoski and the rest of the WoO Series made up the previously postponed 97 Country Outlaw Nationals at O'Reilly Auto Parts Motor Speedway in Topeka, KS. Lasoski won the preliminary night program earlier this month, and continued his impressive run, leading all 35 laps en route to the win. Lasoski then moved to his home track and the home track for American Compressed Steel, the half-mile State Fair Motor Speedway in Sedalia. Lasoski turned in another dominating performance, leading all 25 laps to earn his ninth "A" feature victory of the year. He now trails Steve Kinser by only eight points in the championship standings.

"The Dude" and the rest of the outlaws move on to Knoxville tonight and tomorrow for the NAPA Classic. Lasoski has dominated the half-mile Knoxville Raceway throughout his career. Earlier this season, Lasoski finished second after setting quick time before Mother Nature rained out Saturday's racing action. Lasoski won the preliminary night and finished second during the main event in last year's NAPA Classic.
