Williams Grove, Virginia Motor Speedway weekend ends on a high note for Elite Racing

There are a lot of ups and downs in motorsports. Some days you are on the low side of the banking and others you are riding high in the top groove. This weekend may have started in the low groove for Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing squad, but with a change of scenery the team was able to come together and end the weekend on the cushion. As a result, they recorded their fifth victory of 2010 and Meyers' 40th World of Outlaws career win.

Williams Grove Night 1 - Out of the groove at the Grove

Williams Grove is one of the tracks that is well-known to racecar drivers and fans alike. Whether it is the Beer Hill Gang or the PA Posse that races there weekly, it is renowned in 410 winged sprint car racing. When the Elite Racing crew pulled in the pits on Thursday, the racing weekend started on a good note with a third quick lap in qualifying.

In racing action, the track proved to be tough to tame as there was very little passing in the heat races. After failing to make the dash, Jason Meyers began his night in his #14 GLR Investments KPC in the 11th position. Meyers would stay mired just outside of the top-ten during most of the A-Main. At one point Meyers was able to move into tenth position, but during the later stages of the race Steve Kinser and Paul McMahan were able to get around the #14. At the end of the night Meyers would finish 12th, while PA Posse member Chad Layton went on collect the victory.

Williams Grove - Night 2 - Meyers fights back after first lap melee

Night two at Williams Grove would see the A-Main start with a bang, which was very unfortunate for the Elite Racing team. After qualifying sixth, the #14 GLR Investments KPC just fell short of making the dash. In Friday night's main event, Meyers started in the 13th position, but was caught up in an accident on the first lap, which also saw nine other cars damaged.

After a lengthy red flag, Meyers restarted the race in the twentieth position. Over a series of yellow flags and restarts, Meyers methodically moved up through the field. In the closing laps of the event Meyers had picked each car off one-by-one and was in the 14th position. In the final laps of the race Meyers closed in on Aaron Ott and got around him to secure the 13th position, while Fred Rahmer went on to win.

"We have a great car this year," stated Meyers after two tough nights at Williams Grove. "My team has done a phenomenal job with the DDNI #14. We had a little rough patch here lately, especially here this weekend in Pennsylvania. It is a long season and there are a lot of races to go. We really do not need to be concentrating on the points. We need to focus going out there and winning races. Then the points will come to us. I cannot wait to get back on track tomorrow night in Virginia. I am confident we will have a good night there."

Virginia Motor Speedway - Meyers bounces back for victory number five

After two nights of lows, Meyers and his Elite Racing crew could not wait to get to a track where they have had success at before- Virginia Motor Speedway for the third annual Paul Sawyer Memorial. Meyers recorded quick time at the beginning of the night and from that point, with favorable track conditions, he just kept working toward the main event.

"Tonight I think we have one of the best race tracks I have ever seen here," explained Meyers before Saturday night's feature event. "We have two grooves that have not quite widened up enough, but I think we are going to get there and have some great racing."

Thanks to those track conditions, Meyers was able to secure a third place starting position for Saturday night's main event in the dash. The feature was fast and furious as it ran wire-to-wire without a single caution period. In the opening laps, Meyers held on to the third spot stalking the #9 car of Joey Saldana. On the eighth lap of the race, Meyers had caught Saldana and got past him with a slide job. As the green flag laps kept ticking off, Meyers kept gaining on the leader.

"You get long green flag runs at places like this," Meyers explained. "You could run top or bottom or wherever you needed to go tonight. When you have a nice track like this, you get good racing like that. My hat is off to everyone here tonight who worked hard to give us a great track."

After getting past Saldana, Meyers started chasing down the leader. What was over a second and a half lead on lap 8, Meyers cut down to .5 seconds in just two laps. On Lap 12, Meyers had closed on the leader Jason Sides and made quick work of the 7s car claiming the top spot. In just 6 laps, Meyers showed how fast his #14 GLR Investment KPC was opening up over a two-second lead. Saldana would claim the second spot, and try to chase Meyers down, but was unable to catch him. Meyers would take the checkered flag by 1.8 seconds over Saldana to record his 5th win of the season, his second at Virginia Motor Speedway, and his 40th career World of Outlaws victory becoming only the 12th driver in World of Outlaws history to accomplish that feat.

"I have to say what makes me so good here or any track is this team," Meyers expressed in Victory Lane. "Everyone - DJ (Lindsey), Brian (Bloomfield), Glen (Beaton), everybody here, then Chris (Luck), Charlie (Garrett), Guy (Stockbridge), Rene (North), and Scott (Hoofnagle), there are so many people who work so hard on this team that make me look good. I had a great race car tonight. Corey (Fillip) has been working with us on our shocks and tonight it was incredible and so easy to go out there and drive. This is just a great race track with friendly fans and it is a beautiful facility. We enjoy coming here. I really have to thank my wife Robyn. We were making the four hour drive here after being up until four in the morning. I was down about the last two nights I just had, and was whining and complaining. She told me to shut up and just go out there and do what I do. We did that tonight. We got here and just worried about what we needed to do. Another victory for this Elite Racing team and the people who work so hard with it is just phenomenal. Elite Landscaping, GLR Investments, DDNI, Media Tile - there are so many people who help us get this done. We love coming up here to Virginia and look forward to coming back next year."

Next weekend, Jason Meyers and his Elite Racing team will be traveling back to the Midwest for a duo of events. On Friday night, May 21 Meyers will be taking on Ohio's best and the rest of the Outlaws at Attica Raceway Park, before moving on to I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan on Saturday night May 22.
