ORRVILLE, OH (May 20)-- The Gumout Racing Series event at Wayne County Speedway this past Saturday honored the Speedway's builder and founder, Pete Jacobs. At the time of Wayne County Speedway's construction, Pete's son, Kenneth, had already started his sprint car career. The three tracks that Kenneth competed at had set strict motor rules. "We ran a V-8 overhead Chevy then. We kept winning every weekend and the tracks got tired of it. So, they outlawed my motors," Kenneth explained. Not agreeing with the tracks' new rules, Pete Jacobs decided to build his own racetrack that would hold no motor rules. His dreams became reality, as Wayne County Speedway now sits in what used to be Pete Jacobs' corn field.

-The Jacobs family was well represented Saturday night. Kenny Jacobs, grandson of Pete Jacobs, feared he would not be able to race in his grandfather's honor. Thunderstorms washed out the All-Star's event at I-96 Saturday night, allowing Kenny to compete at Wayne County. Lee Jacobs, son of Kenny and great-grandson of Pete, as well as Garrett Jacobs, great-grandson of Pete, also competed during the Gumout Racing Series event. None of the three Jacobs' faired well however. Kenny suffered motor problems throughout the event forcing him to pull-out of contention during the "A" Main. Lee Jacobs found himself spinning end over end during the "B" Main. Garret Jacobs finished 11th in the Hank's Performance Products "B" Main.

-The Jacobs family was not the only family affair in the Wayne County Speedway's pit area. Three Kinser's also competed in the event. Randy Kinser, brother to Steve, raced well throughout the night to take home a third place finish. Kelly Kinser finished directly behind cousin Randy in the "A" Main. Making his Wayne County Speedway, as well as Gumout Racing Series, debut was Kraig Kinser, son to Steve. Kraig was leading the Hank's Performance Products "B" Main until he spun in turn four. Kraig missed qualifying for the night's "A" Main event as he finished 12th in the "B" Main.

-The second, and sometimes, third generation of sprint car racers were making their career Gumout Racing Series debuts. Lee Jacobs, Garrett Jacobs and Kraig Kinser were mentioned above. Also, in the #2N was Jac Neville, nephew to Pennzoil World of Outlaws star Jac Haudenschild. Neville failed to qualify for the night's "A" Main event. Neville finished directly behind uncle Ed Haudenschild, brother to Jac, in the night's "B" Main event.

-Frankie Kerr was involved in a terrifying fire during the 30-lap feature event. Kerr's brake rotor had punctured his fuel tank on lap 25. Rolling to a stop in turn two, Kerr had trouble exiting his sprinter due to melted safety belts. With the help of drivers Brian Ellenberger and Chad Kemenah, Kerr was pulled out of the #23s sprinter. Kerr was taken to the local hospital, where he was treated for third-degree burns on both of his hands, as well as second-degree burns on his calves.

-Brad Furr took a wild ride on lap 27. Furr, not seeing the yellow that was dropped for Don Kreitz, Jr., drove over the right rear tire of Kelly Kinser and launched himself into the turn three catch fence. Furr walked away unharmed. At the restart, the field sped by the flagstand but slowed on the backstretch. Noticing that the green flag was still dropped coming out of turn four, the field again gaining speed. Apparently, Furr's accident instigated electrical problems which caused the red light to still be illuminated on the backstretch. The problems were fixed, and the race again restarted.

-Jason Meyers has proven his passing skills already this season. Meyers passed ten cars on his way to a seventh place finish Saturday night. This performance earned him the KSE Hard Charger Award for the night. Meyers has earned the KSE Hard Charger Award at every Gumout Racing Series to date.
