One of America's most popular racing series, the Pennzoil World of Outlaws, opens its 2001 racing season with events at Kings Speedway in Hanford, Calif., and at the Perris Auto Speedway in Perris, Calif., this weekend.

Goodyear-shod cars have won 19 of the last 20 Outlaw championships and the outlook for 2001 is very bright. The tire lineup for the new season is a continuation of the development work the tire maker was very successful with last year. New products will be introduced at Hanford and Perris along with the proven products which were so successful during the second half of last season.

"We are excited about the new products which we developed during the off season," said Paul Lauritzen, Operations Manager, Dirt Racing. "We are quite confidant they will compliment our very successful lineup."

Kings Speedway is a 1/3-mile, semi-banked oval with a clay surface and is scheduled to host the season-opener Friday, February 23. Perris Auto Speedway is a 1/2-mile, semi-banked oval with a clay surface and has the second race on the schedule Saturday, February 24.

The series' single-lap record at Kings Speedway is 12.598 seconds, set by Sammy Swindell in 1999. Swindell, who finished second in points last season, will once again race on Goodyear tires. Swindell has three victories at Kings Speedway. Johnny Herrera, who won the last WoO race at the track, and Stevie Smith will both continue their long association with Goodyear Racing. Smith has two wins at Kings Speedway.

The single-lap record for a WoO car at the PAS is 14.070 seconds, set on Goodyear tires by Joey Saldana last year. Mark Kinser, with five wins, is the winningest Outlaws driver at Perris and is a long time Goodyear driver. Kinser finished third in points last season. Herrera also has a win at Perris.

Other Goodyear drivers in the series include Dale Blaney, Donnie Schatz, Paul McMahan, Jeff Shepard, Tim Shaffer, Daryn Pitman and Brian Paulus.

The Outlaws schedule is one of the most demanding in all of motorsports with 104 nights of racing scheduled between the Feb. 23 race at Kings Speedway and the finale at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in early November. The schedule races through 25 states. Virtually every resident of the 48 contiguous states is within a four-hour drive of at least one World of Outlaws race this year.
