CONCORD, NC (October 5) -- Kasey Kahne raced into ninth place in the Preliminary Feature Thursday when the Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series opened the TALK.com Outlaws Championship at The Dirt Track at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Kahne, who leads the MCI/WorldCom USAC Midget Series point standings, was the 10th-fastest qualifier in the 47-car field. He followed defending Pennzoil World of Outlaws Series champion Mark Kinser across the finish line in the Second NAPA AUTO PARTS Heat Race. He earned the fourth row outside starting position in the feature by finishing eighth in the CHANNELLOCK Dash. The 20-year-old racer from Enumclaw, WA, finished ninth in the 30- lap feature, beating All-Stars Circuit of Champions titlist Kenny Jacobs and sprint car racing veterans Johnny Herrera, Andy Hillenburg, Greg Hodnett, Billy Pauch, Danny Lasoski, Tim Shaffer, Jac Haudenschild, Stevie Smith and Fred Rahmer across the finish line. Kahne will return to Lowe's Motor Speedway Friday before heading to Sacramento, CA, for Saturday's USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series race at Cal-Expo.
