Outlaws' 'Mean 15' to Race Four Times in Five Days

JOPLIN, MO (June 29) -- The World of Outlaws Sprint Series "Mean 15" will start a grueling series of four single-program events in five days Tuesday at Joplin 66 Speedway. The world's premier sprint car racing series will be extra busy in July, racing 20 times in 31 days.

The fire-breathing, mud-slinging sprint cars will also run $51,600 events at Batesville Speedway Thursday, Missouri's State Fair Speedway Friday and at the Terre Haute Action Track Saturday. The series' inaugural race at Batesville's high-banked, 3/8-mile oval was originally scheduled for April 22nd.

Danny Lasoski, who lives in Higginsville, MO, cut World of Outlaws Sprint Series standings leader Steve Kinser's advantage to 86 points with a runner-up run in the NAPA Classic at Knoxville Raceway last weekend. "The Dude" has won two of the series' three "A" Features at Joplin 66. The 2001 World of Outlaws Sprint Series champion has also won three main events at Missouri's State Fair Speedway and the last four races at Terre Haute. The 2001 series champion has driven 2002 NASCAR Nextel Cup champion Tony Stewart's #20 J.D. Byrider Eagle into first or second place in six of the last seven main events.

Kinser has a knack for winning when the World of Outlaws Sprint Series visits a racing facility for the first time. "The King of the Outlaws" has won 56 such events. He drove his #11 Quaker State Maxim to victory in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series' last race at Joplin 66 Speedway and is a four-time winner at the half-mile ovals located in Sedalia, MO, and Terre Haute, IN.

Donny Schatz, who ranks third in the point standings, has driven his family's #15 Parker Store J&J into the top 10 in eight of the last 10 main events. The 1997 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year won an "A" Feature at Missouri's State Fair Speedway last July 2nd.

Jason Meyers' sixth-place run in Saturday's NAPA Classic finale was his sixth top-10 finish in the last seven "A" Features. Meyers drove the #14 Elite Landscaping Maxim past nine cars to finish 13th in Friday's Preliminary Feature at Knoxville Raceway.

Craig Dollansky was declared the winner of the NAPA Classic when Mark Kinser and the #83 Beef Packers Maxim violated the World of Outlaws Sprint Series weight rule. "The Crowd Pleaser" has closed to within eight points of Meyers by driving the #7 VMAC Maxim into the top five in four of the last eight main events.

Paul McMahan, who ranks sixth in the point standings, won the first World of Outlaws Sprint Series "A" Feature of his career at Missouri's State Fair Speedway March 23, 2001. McMahan has driven the #11H Selma Shell Maxim into the top 10 in 17 of 28 events this season.

Tim Shaffer, who joined the Casey's General Stores team June 7th, has recorded top-10 finishes in four of five events in Lonny Parsons' #6 Maxim. "The Steel City Outlaw" started on the pole and finished third last Tuesday at Dodge City Raceway Park.

Joey Saldana, who drove the #2 Volcano Joe's Coffee Maxim to victory in Friday's NAPA Classic opener at Knoxville Raceway, is tied with Daryn Pittman for eighth place in the World of Outlaws Sprint Series point standings.

Pittman, the Manufacturers' Hard Charger Award winner in 2002, drove the #21 Hop & Sack CMC past seven cars to finish in fifth place in Saturday's NAPA Classic finale at Knoxville Raceway. The 2001 World of Outlaws Gumout Series champion has recorded two top-five finishes in the last four events.

Friday's event at Missouri's State Fair Speedway will be called the Arctic Cat ATV Summer Nationals. Ticket information can be obtained by calling 660-530-5607.

Inclement weather forced World of Outlaws Sprint Series officials to cancel the May 14th race in Terre Haute, so the fire-breathing, mud-slinging sprint car racers are eager to return to the legendary half-mile. A fireworks display will follow Saturday's event.
