Round Two of Snap-On® Pit Crew Challenge Set For Saturday at Skagit Speedway
Burlington, Wash.--August 25, 2006 -- After beating nearly triple digit temperatures and 10 other teams on July 29 at Princeton Speedway in the first round of the Snap-on® Pit Crew Challenge, the Kasey Kahne Racing team is ready for round two on Saturday at Skagit Speedway. After changing a front end in just a tick over two minutes in round one, the team will get the chance to change a rear end against the other teams from the World of Outlaws Sprint Series.
Three crew members will try to beat the clock just as they would during a race in the work area if they had to change a rear end on the car. Not only are they battling for cash prizes after each round and at seasons end, but also bragging rights are on the line for the team and crew that can prevail.
The event at Skagit Speedway is a homecoming for Willie Kahne, the crew chief on Joey Saldana's car, who grew up near the track and remembers many a night working into the wee hours of the morning in the pit area. Now he returns with one the strongest groups in the pits, along with team members Justin Adams and Kevin Cardoza. They currently have Saldana second in World of Outlaws points, and have helped guide him to seven A-Feature wins so far this season, including his second career Kings Royal victory at Eldora Speedway, that pocketed the team $50,000. They will look to repeat in round two of the Snap-on® Pit Crew Challenge on their home turf.
"It was good for us as a team just to get in there," said Willie Kahne, after the win in round one at Princeton Speedway. "Any time you can win anything it's awesome. We get pumped up to do that. A win's a win."
The competition will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday, and all fans are welcome to attend and see the skill and determination of the hardest working crews in racing.
The finale of the Snap-on® Pit Crew Challenge will take place in Las Vegas during the season ending weekend for the World of Outlaws Sprint Series October 27-28, and will have the teams changing engines to beat the clock.
Snap-on®, which provided impact wrenches for all the teams to use, is rewarding the top three teams at each stage with $600 to the winning team, $200 to the second-place team and $120 to third place. The top three teams with the lowest overall accumulated time also will receive honors and rewards. The champion will pocket $3,000 with second place picking up $1,500 and third place collecting $600.
