Rain Delays World of Outlaws Sprint Series Cactus Classic to Sunday

Phoenix -- March 5, 2005 -- The forecast for rain at Manzanita Speedway unfortunately came true as the $12,000-to-win Cactus Classic finale scheduled for Saturday night was postponed until Sunday.

All the action will be moved up one hour Sunday from its originally scheduled times on Saturday, so gates should open at 3 p.m. (local) with qualifying around 5 p.m.

Four drivers will have a little longer wait to take the track Sunday. The top four finishers from the preliminary race Friday night are locked into the dash, meaning winner Craig Dollansky, Danny Lasoski, Steve Kinser and Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year leader Shane Stewart won't have to sweat out time trials and qualifying heats.

"It affects everybody," said Dollansky, who moved to within six points of series leader Kinser after winning Friday night. "It's just tough for the fans that were planning on being here tonight and all the teams that are here. Being rained out, it just makes it difficult on the fans, the race teams, the promoters and everyone. It's just unfortunate.

"For us, we were happy to get the win last night and be locked in and starting on the front row in the dash."

All of the Cactus Classic action from Manzanita can be seen on The Outdoor Channel at 8 p.m. (Eastern) March 23.

After the Cactus Classic concludes, the World of Outlaws Sprint Series remains in the West to race March 10-11 in the J.D. Byrider World of Outlaws Nationals at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The series shifts March 18 to Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Miss., and March 19 to Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas.
