Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Friday Night Chili Bowl Report

Three more Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series drivers opened their 2008 season on Friday night by taking part in the 22nd Annual Dodge Chili Bowl Midget Nationals.

Terry McCarl, Jason Meyers and Sam Hafertepe Jr. all took to the track on the third of the three qualifying nights for the famed indoor event.

McCarl, who won twice with the World of Outlaws in 2007, raced his way to a 17th-place finish in the preliminary feature, which was won by Damion Gardner.

The native of Altoona, Iowa and six-time Knoxville Raceway track champion began his night by finishing fourth in the eighth heat race, which put him in the first A-Qualifier where he finished sixth. A third-place showing in the second B-Main earned him a spot in the preliminary feature, driving for the always potent Wilke-Pak team.

Meyers, who finished fifth in World of Outlaws championship points in 2007, was fourth in the fifth heat race on Friday night, which put him in the third A-Qualifier, where he experienced some trouble. He finished the night 12th in the first B-Main, driving for Corey Tucker Racing.

Hafertepe finished third in the first heat race, to earn a spot in the third A-Qualifier where he wound up seventh. A strong run in the first B-Main found Hafertepe just two spots short of transferring into the preliminary feature, as he wound up sixth.

Kasey Kahne, who owns the car driven by Joey Saldana on the World of Outlaws circuit, finished fourth on Friday night in the preliminary feature to lock himself into the starting field for the main event on Saturday night.

Also competing on Friday night was World of Outlaws Late Model Series start Josh Richards and also 2007 Advance Auto Parts World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series Promoter of the Year Glenn Styres from Ohsweken Speedway in Canada.

Participating again this season at the Dodge Chili Bowl as the flagman, is Roger Slack, the Vice President of Events at Lowe's Motor Speedway and Promoter of the World of Outlaws events at The Dirt Track @ Lowe's Motor Speedway, where the series will compete twice in 2008, including the second annual Outlaws World Finals.

Action at the Dodge Chili Bowl will begin on Saturday afternoon with a number of consolation races, to help fill the rest of the field for the main event on Saturday night.

The first B-Main will see 2006 World of Outlaws Late Model Series Champion and 2006 Chili Bowl winner Tim McCreadie line up in the fourth row, while reigning Chili Bowl winner and World of Outlaws team owner Tony Stewart will start on the front row of the first B-Main.

The second B-Main will see 2001 World of Outlaws champion Danny Lasoski start in the seventh row, while three-time World of Outlaws champion Sammy Swindell will line up on the third row.

The first C-Main will have 1995 World of Outlaws Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award winner Randy Hannagan start on the second row, with Shane Stewart, the series top rookie in 2005 lining up in row six.

The second C-Main will see Terry McCarl on the outside of the second row, with Joey Saldana in the sixth row.

Chad Kemenah, the 2006 Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year with the World of Outlaws will line up on the sixth row of the first D-Main, while Sam Hafertepe Jr. will occupy the inside spot of the third row in the second D-Main.

The first E-Main will see World of Outlaws Late Model Series star Josh Richards start on the front row, while Jason Meyers will line up on the sixth row of the second E-Main.

Justin Henderson in his third trip to the Dodge Chili Bowl will start on the third row of the second H-Main, while Shane Carson who heads Industry Relations for the World of Outlaws and finished fourth in the first ever Chili Bowl in 1987 will start on the fourth row of the first I-Main.
