World of Outlaws Sprint Series Announces First 72 Races For 2007
Knoxville, IA -- Aug. 11, 2006 -- DIRT MotorSports announced today the first 72 dates for the 2007 World of Outlaws Sprint Series season, featuring a return to traditional facilities, a number of tracks new to the series, a return to tracks for the first time in several seasons and a two-day event in Canada.
"Having a majority of our schedule available at this time will allow fans, promoters, teams and sponsors to get a significant jump on planning for 2007," said DIRT MotorSports President and CEO Tom Deery. "Making this announcement has been a high priority goal of the DIRT MotorSports team. We can now move forward with finalizing our television package, allowing us to then advance a number of sponsorship discussions, in preparation for an exciting season."
Achieving a schedule this early in 2006, by far the earliest schedule release in the history of the World of Outlaws, was a collaborative effort among promoters and World of Outlaws officials.
"We already have as many dates booked for 2007 as we had on our final 2006 schedule and couldn't be more excited about the quality and diversity of the facilities represented," said DIRT MotorSports Executive Vice President of Operations Ben Geisler. "We believe this will help each of them with the planning of their events next season, as well as help our teams as they attempt to secure the sponsorship funding necessary to travel across the country and compete with the World of Outlaws."
For the third consecutive year, the World of Outlaws will open the season with races Friday, Feb. 9, and Sunday, Feb. 11, at Volusia Speedway Park in midst of Race Weeks in Barberville, Fla., near Daytona Beach.
The World of Outlaws will continue sanctioning three of the largest events in all of sprint car racing with the King's Royal at Eldora Speedway, the Gold Cup at Silver Dollar Speedway and the National Open at Williams Grove Speedway.
Among the tracks where the World of Outlaws will return in 2007 after an absence this season will be Feb. 17 at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas; March 24 at Pike County Speedway in Magnolia, Miss.; May 4 at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill.; May 12 and Sept. 15 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.; May 26 at Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway; July 6 at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill.; and I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich.
Tracks welcoming the World of Outlaws Sprint Series for the first time include Volunteer Speedway on March 30 in Bull's Gap, Tenn., during the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series event in nearby Bristol, and a trek north of the border to Castrol Raceway Aug. 17-18 in Edmonton, Alberta.
The World of Outlaws are also returning to four speedways after being absent for several years. The series returns March 31 to Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, Ga., for the first time since 1999; April 6 to Paducah (Ky.) International Raceway for the first time since 2001; May 5 to Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Tenn.; and June 17 to Heartland Park in Topeka, Kan., for the first time since 2002.
