28 April, 2003 - Despite providing the Helm Motorsport team with another top 10 finish to continue the best start for the team in many years Jeff Shepard has parted ways with the team.

32-year-old Shepard is one of the most exciting and hardest chargers in the O'Reilly World of Outlaws Championship.

The last time he competed in the entire Championship he won the prestigious Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year award.

Already this year he had proven that he was going to be a force for the Championship and is placed just outside the top 5 in the points chase.

"I am a race car driver and every time I hit the track I want to win," said Shepard.

"No matter what the event I want to be up front but it appears as though the team were content to make up the numbers and just be a part of the mid field action."

Over the past three years the Helm Motorsport team has tasted victory on only 6 occasions and already this year Shepard had taken them to victory lane at Pike County along with three top 5 and nine top 10 finishes.

"The car was just starting to get on the pace this year and with a recent restructure in the team results were flowing in, but now they have decided to reverse that restructure" commented Shepard.

"I know what it takes to win and last week I showed that the car can be as fast as any car in the Championship when I had to charge through the field at Powercom Park.

"Last weekend at Knoxville I drove the tyres off the car. With the engine going on to 7 cylinders in only the second lap I drove around the problem to move through the pack and record another top 10 finish after starting 17th.

"At the start of the year I was hired as the driver of the car but to have a successful team it requires the entire team to work to a common goal -- VICTORY. It is tough to achieve this goal if this is not the goal of every person in the team."

Shepard is the fourth driver in as many years to part ways with the Helm Motorsport team.

With his plans for the remainder of the 2003 season now being turned upside down Shepard is now actively looking to join a team who has the desire to taste the champagne in victory lane.
