Taylor Wings to Strengthen Lightweight Wings

ATLANTA, GA (June 13) -- A pair of recent wing failures has promoted Taylor Wings to strengthen its Outlaw Lightweight Wings, World of Outlaws Technical Director Martin Willis announced Sunday.

Taylor Wings officials decided to increase the strength of the area above the support channel after two wings failed on the #35 PRT Travel Maxim driven by Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year candidate Jonathan Allard during the June 2nd event at Rolling Wheels Raceway Park. Each wing that failed was of the Outlaw Lightweight Deep Dish design. Extremely humid conditions, combined with the top wing being set in the forward position resulted in very strong down force, distorting the support channel.

"It is the duty of the World of Outlaws not only to assure the cars are being run to the rules, but also to ensure that the components being used are safe," Willis said. "By working with the component manufacturers, we will form an integral bond that will help make the sport better and safer."

All existing wings in Taylor's stock were upgraded following the failures. Taylor Wings will notify all teams using the company's Outlaw Lightweight Deep Dish wings of the potential weakness, and a strengthening kit will be available.
