Tatnell Runs Eighth at Tri-City Speedway

GRANITE CITY, IL (June 14) -- Brooke Tatnell was looking for Thursday's World of Outlaws event at newly reconfigured Tri-City Speedway to be a confidence-booster for the Volcano Joe's Coffee team.

The five-time World Series Sprintcar champion responded by passing five cars on his way to an eighth-place finish at Granite City's semi-banked, 3/8-mile oval.

Tatnell's 12.380-second lap was only .206 seconds off fast-qualifier Zach Chappell's pace. He missed qualifying for the Crane Cams Dash by one position by finishing third in the First Heat Race, so he started inside the seventh row in the 35-lap main event.

Tatnell raced into ninth place during the first four laps, then battled Terry McCarl for six laps before passing him for eighth. Brooke won a back-straightaway drag race with Craig Dollansky immediately following a 25th-lap restart, but Jac Haudenschild passed him for seventh place with a high move between the first and second corners several laps later. The eighth-place finish was Tatnell's 11th in the top 10 this season.

Woodward Racing will be racing for its third straight top-10 finish Saturday at Knoxville Raceway. Tatnell drove the #2 Volcano Joe's Coffee Schnee into ninth place at "The Home of the Nationals" on April 28th.
