Audi Sport confirmed last month that it will increase its support for the EKS squad in 2017, following its championship success in both the drivers and teams championships last year.

Two-time World RX event winner Heikkinen finished second in the series in 2014, and moved to EKS to join Ekstrom for 2016 to drive one of two Audi S1 Supercars.

He scored three podium finishes last season, including being runner-up to Ekstrom at Hockenheim in the first one-two for the squad, and at the season finale in Argentina.

“Never change a winning team,” said Ekstrom, who will race in both World RX and the DTM this year.

“I’m happy about tackling the title defence project with ‘Topi’. He’s a young but very experienced race driver who’s a perfect fit for our team.”

Heikkinen began his rallycross Supercar career with the Eklund Motorsport team in 2010, before switching to the American-based Global Rallycross Championship with the then Ford-backed OlsbergsMSE squad, and claimed the title in 2013.

He signed for Marklund Motorsport for the first year of the World Rallycross Championship in 2014 and won in Belgium, repeating the success the following year, before joining Ekstrom at EKS.

“It’s great that Mattias is placing his trust in me again this year,” said the 25-year old. “I’m very proud of continuing to be a part of this fantastic team.”
