Dani dreams of another finish in the points
Within only seven events behind the wheel of a World Rally car, Dani Sordo has finished three times on the podium. The young Spaniard lies in third position in the Championship and dreams to conclude the first half of the season with a seventh points scoring...
After your third rally on gravel, how do you feel with the Xsara ?
"For me the most important thing is that now I have an excellent feeling with the car and that I enjoy very much driving the Xsara. The team has done a great job as they changed a few things so it really matches my requirements and suits me and my driving style. It's also because I have a bit more experience and I have a better sensibility for the different settings on the Xsara. On top of that, I think in Italy the conditions became easier on the second lap, even if the first passage in the loose was as hard as Argentina. It helped me feeling at ease in my seat..."
You will have to take completely new pacenotes in Greece. Are you happy with your own system?
"I find my system has improved a lot. I also have more experience and knowledge to be able to estimate the speed during the recce. That's really hard. Marc [Marti] has put a lot on pressure on me at the start of our work together because he knows how important it is for success. We have had a lot of discussions but now I think we've achieved a good system together. Marc has told me that it isn't as detailed as Carlos'. It works with grades from 1 to 9 for the corners from a slow hairpin to a flat out corner. Then I add right or left, and maybe a description like `right long and fast 5' and so on. Most of the time I use a lot of 5, 6 and 7 corners."
Your target in Sardinia was consistency in your speed and progressive improvement. What are they for Greece?
"In Sardinia we have set some quite good times. I had the feeling I was improving and we've achieved a better result than we expected. Being on the podium in Sardinia and knowing there were all these drivers there, is a great result. For Greece we have to try to continue our good performance even if I know it's a very demanding rally on the cars and on the tyres. The good point is that all stages are new to everybody and it puts all drivers on the same level to start with... or almost! Of course I know I cannot beat Seb- and I hope he can win again - but a finish inside the top 5 would really please me."
