Chance to score WRC-points for OMV Kronos Citroen WRT

* Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor try Sardinia-tactics once more
* First six in overall ranking only 10,7 seconds apart

The OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team hasn't advanced much since the last WRC-run in Sardinia. For the Citroen Xsara WRC of the 34-year-old Viennese doesn't really gain momentum either at the "bp ultimate Acropolis Rally of Greece". The OMV duo Stohl/Minor nevertheless still has hopes to score WRC- points. Currently 57,6 seconds are missing on eighth place.

The chance is alive

Even though Manfred Stohl had a faultless first day at the Acropolis Rally, the first run to the FIA World Rally Championship, the result is somewhat disappointing. The OMV driver lies in ninth overall place after eight of 21 special stages. 57,6 seconds are missing on a WRC-point. But the Austrian has some tactics prepared. Just like two weeks ago in Sardinia he wants to finish the rally without grave problems. Back then he was seventh-placed. A result that doesn't seem impossible to reach in Greece, as well. Stohl: "We have to admit that we don't stand much of a chance against the works teams and the Ford World Rally Cars of Latvala and Henning Solberg. But for Saturday two special stages leading over almost 50 kilometres are scheduled. This won't go without problems. Those who have the least hold all the aces. I hope that we will be among the lucky ones." Thus the OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team hasn't given up on scoring points by far.

As close as seldom before

No driver was able to pull away in the overall classification on the first day of the Acropolis Rally. To the contrary: the first six are only 10,7 seconds apart. After Chris Atkinson (Aus/Subaru WRC) had set the speed in the morning, Marcus Grönholm (Fin/Ford WRC) took the lead in the afternoon. Last year's winner lies 8,3 seconds ahead of Petter Solberg (Nor/Subaru WRC) and 9,0 seconds in front of Atkinson. Three-times World Champion Sebastien Loeb (Fra/Citroen C4 WRC) in fourth place is 9,7 seconds behind.

Preview for Saturday

The second leg of the Acropolis Rally will lead the drivers over 146,08 timed kilometres on Saturday. Eight special stages are scheduled. Most certainly the criterion will be SS "Agii Theodori" with a length of 48,88 kilometres which will be completed twice. The restart will take place in Markopuolo at 7.30. The finish of the second leg will be reached after the super stage at 19.32 at the very place.
