The Frenchman cut his 17-second deficit to seven in the morning loop and finished narrowly ahead of the Spaniard in all three stage this afternoon to end up in the lead.
The gap between the duo is 1.7s with closest rival Thierry Neuville more than a minute behind.
The Belgian took third after Andreas Mikkelsen rolled in SS12, his retirement giving Ogier an even better chance to take the title this weekend than before.
Having passed Mads Ostberg in the morning, Kris Meeke built a lead of half a minute over the Norwegian with DMACK's Ott Tanak sitting seventh.
The third Ford of Eric Camilli developed transmission problems during SS12 and retired following the stage, giving Kevin Abbring eighth.
