Kris Meeke and Glenn Patterson capped off their incredible comeback in Catalonia with a podium finish, two places behind the privately-entered Citroën C2 Super 1600 of JWRC winners Martin Prokop/Jan Tománek.

"I did my best to manage the latter part of the rally from in front, trying to stay concentrated and drive with the sole objective of defending my position. It worked and I am delighted to have won my first outing in the Junior World Rally Championship with the C2 that took last year's title," said the understandably emotional Czech Jipocar Racing driver at the finish.

Meanwhile, Kris Meeke was far more ebullient in the end-of-rally interview area than he had been on Friday evening, focusing on his strong run following his misfortunes on SS4 which he h s succeeded in putting behind him. "The bestd we could have a wished for at that moment was to fight our way back up to 3r ," admitted the Ulsterman. "Glenn and I are therefore delighted with our result which was made possible by our competitive, perfectly set-up, easy-to-drive car."

Kris Meeke claimed fourteen fastest JWRC times from a possible sixteen and, with the other two falling to Martin Prokop, the Citroën C2 Super 1600s made a big impact on the timesheets throughout the weekend. "The car has progressed in performance terms since last year," underlines Citroën Sport's Customer Competition Technical Manager Alexis Avril. "That has been possible thanks to the homologation of new parts, notably concerning the brakes."

On the other hand, the weekend was one to forget for French crew Brice Tirabassi and Jacques-Julien Renucci. "The nightmare is over! In addition to the minor problems we suffered, I have to admit I never really got into the swing. I also suffered from repeated pains in the cervical vertebrae which drained me," revealed the French driver who hopes to be back in form again very soon.

Said Citroën Sport's Customer Competition Manager Yves Matton: "Thanks to Kris and Glenn, this rally has demonstrated the Citroën C2 Super 1600's performance potential, while PH Sport, who run our JWRC programme on events, did a perfect job during what was our first event of the season, and with three cars to look after. Seeing a privately-entered C2 on the top of the podium also shows that our customer competition policy is bearing fruit. I am pleased with this weekend's overall result and I can hardly wait until our next time out in Corsica."
