Victory and second place for the C2 Super 1600

The very first Jordan Rally was an important event for the country but also an extremely tricky rally for the Juniors. After three days of action not far from the Dead Sea, Sebastien Ogier in his Citroen C2 Super 1600 run by PH-Sport, took the class win. In the C2 Junior Experience, Shaun Gallagher was first and put his Citroen C2 Super 1600 on the second step of the podium.

"I'm very pleased with our result it goes to show that consistency pays!" said Shaun Gallagher at the end of the rally. "We were able to manage our rally and the way in which we drove the car very well. The C2 Super 1600 proved itself to be very competitive and resisted the heat very well, just as we had to. The last leg was not at all easy. On the longest stage we had no grip at all and the important thing was to keep up the right rhythm in order to complete the 135 competitive kilometres of the day. This second place is the result of some excellent work from our team, and we sincerely hope to repeat it on the events that are still to come." The Irishman, who is not at all used to conditions in the Middle East, perfectly achieved his objective of finishing in the top three.

Jean-Francois Lienere, in charge of Citroen Sport's customer competition department, explained: "Sebastien et Shaun's results have underlined the performance of the C2 Super 1600. There was a lot of strong competition, with 15 rivals against which the Citroen C2 drivers were able to measure themselves. Preparing for this rally was very tough, as we really didn't know a lot about the characteristics of the terrain. So we're very happy with the result here."

In the C2-R2 MAX, which was making its debut on the World Rally Championship, Hans Weijs Jr. got off to a good start by occupying fifth place and leading his class at the end of day one. Samuel Barraud, who works in the technical department of the customer competition division, commented: "Hans showed his potential immediately despite some electrical problems and an off on the second day. But two punctures on SS17 didn't help his cause, so he ended up a long way down the order. And to finish, he retired in the last special stage."

In his C2-R2, Francesco Fanari had a gearbox breakage at the start of the race. He set off again under the SupeRally system on Saturday but was forced to retire on SS10 with an overheating engine. The final day went much better for him, but the gaps were too big for the Italian to make up more places.

Outside the C2 Junior Experience, Sebastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia gave another victory to the C2 Super 1600. While fighting for the lead of the rally with Patrick Sandell from the start, the French crew encountered a few technical problems that dropped them to sixth. Thanks to a controlled and consisted drive, the FFSA-backed driver was quickly back to the front, and took the lead of the Junior category on SS17. This victory has put the Frenchman into a dominant lead of the Junior World Rally Championship, with nine points over Shaun Gallagher in second. <pre> Jordan Rally `Junior' classification, end of day 3* 1.
