Angelo Medeghini and Barbara Capoferri on Mitsubishi Lancer Evo finished 4th of Group N in the 25th Rally Argentina July 17th 2005.
The 25th Rally Argentina, 5th round of the FIA PWRC and 9th round of the FIA WRC finished today. Angelo and Barbara Medeghini with Mitsubishi Lancer Evo and together with Kome Sport, finished 4th in the Production Car standing.
Angelo Medeghini maintained the second place of Group N for most part of the race. Yesterday evening in the last SS the steering arm broke, at the Service Park it has been changed, but this morning, while they were running the first SS, broke again, this gave several problems to the Italian crew, although it is a good result which give them the possibility to still fight for the 2005 FIA PWRC.
25th Rally argentina had 22 Special Stages, 340,82 competitive kilometers, and a total length of 1216,94 km. The weather has been quite bad throughout the whole rally, with low temperatures and rain.
Yesterday's leg has been quite tough, the first SS, wide and fast, were held close to Santa Rosa de Calamuchita south of Villa Carlos Paz, the last three SS again north of the town, on yesterday s route, therefore some of them are quite rough in places.
The weather was cold and wet. Argentineans fans supported their rally with enthusiasm, sometimes walking a long way to reach the best spot along the route. "It's been an extremely long and difficult day," said Angelo Medeghini at the end of leg two. "Some of the stages were quite rough and on the last one we found an incredible mud. Anyway I m very happy with the car and the Pirelli KM4 Plus tyres we chose. In one stage the steering arm broke and we had to fix it temporarily and run two stages like that before getting to the service Park."
The 3rd and final leg of the rally was divided into 5 stages (64,13 km), the shortest leg of the race, but nevertheless very demanding as well as the previous ones. Among today's stages two runs over one of the most famous SS of the WRC, stage El Condor, that starts at 2195 meters above see level on Traslasierra mountains, south west of Villa Carlos Paz. The other legendary stage is SS Giulio Cesar. Both of them very narrow and rocky and located in a desert area very spectacular, that looks like a moon landscape.
The crews then went back to the Pro racing complex and run the two short special stages, where cars run side by side, which started the rally. We gained experience during this race and this will help us in the last part of the season2 said Angelo Medeghini at the arrival It has been a very tough rally but at the end we are happy with the result Next appointment for Angelo and Barbara Medeghini of Kome Sport will be Rally Finland, 5-8 August. Even if it does not belong to the PWRC they will run there to practice with the new Subaru, with which they will continue the season.
