A solitary running of the exciting Langley Park Superstage tonight kicks off Telstra Rally Australia, the 13th and penultimate round of this year's FIA World Rally Championship and the final round of the Australian Rally Championship.

Peugeot dominated the stage with Gronholm setting the fastest stage time and team mate François Delecour just 0.7 seconds behind. Juha Kankkunen and Didier Auriol were equal third fastest, 0.3 seconds quicker than Colin McRae. Petter Solberg fared well in his first competitive run on Australian soil, his time on the specially constructed special stage was equal to that of McRae.

In the local showdown Neal Bates edged his Corolla World Rally Car an amazing 4/10th of a second ahead of Bourne, Bates extremely pleased with his start after the dramas the team experienced during the Saxon Safari just over a month ago. Michael Guest, looking to impress on home soil, has continued his form of bad luck, running wide on the entry to the southern hairpin the Hyundai Accent dropped off the man made surface into a large cement marker bending the rear right quarter panel in the process.
