OMV Kronos Citroen WRT in sensational second place

The OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team sticks true to its promised surprise at the "ADAC Rallye GErmany", the tenth run to the FIA World Rally Championship. OMV neo-driver Francois Duval challenged five-times winner Sebastien Loeb (Fra/Citroen C4 WRC) right from the beginning and even took the first overall best-time on special stage three by which the Belgian secured his second overall place. Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor are not quite in tune yet. They are still searching for the right braking point.

Taking up where he left off

Francois Duval has already finished the Rally Germany twice in second place. And the Belgian tarmac specialist is seamlessly taking up where he left off. At his comeback in the Citroen Xsara WRC he put pressure on Sebastien Loeb right from the beginning and lies only 5,8 seconds behind the World Champion after three special stages. Highlight so far was overall best-time on SS 3 where he left Loeb in his wake by 0,4 seconds. Duval: "I got into the rally very fast. In a way it is my home event. The stages are very similar to the ones in the Belgian Championship. So I don't have to adjust too much." But one can bet that the Belgian OMV driver is not content with second place.

Stalling on SS 2 Manfred Stohl and Ilka Minor, on the other hand, are a bit more cautious in their approach to their first tarmac run in eight months. Added to this were minor problems on special stage two. The OMV duo approached a left turn too far on the inside and grazed an iron rod, thereby stalling the engine. Following this the 35-year-old runner-up from last year's Rally Germany lost over 20 seconds. Stohl: "I haven't yet found the rhythm. Unfortunately then the brake pad came off the front brakes, too. But I am confident that we will already improve in the afternoon."
