Dani Sordo: the challenge continues...

After he perfectly handled the first two difficult rounds in Monaco and Sweden, the Junior World Champion discovers Mexico and the joy of driving a World Rally Car on gravel...

Straight after the finish of the Swedish Rally, you were already thinking of the Mexican event and seemed to be very enthusiastic. Why?

"I think we went through two very difficult events without too many problems. Monte Carlo showed extreme conditions and I competed for the first time on snow in Sweden. It was all very new to me. Now for the first event on gravel I feel I have a bit more experience and that it would be less tricky for me. This is why I am impatient to drive here."

Have you ever been to Mexico? What do you know of the country and of the rally? Do you believe that competing in a Spanish speaking country will help you?

"Of course it is very nice to be in a country speaking the same language as Marc, Xevi, Carlos and I, but it is my first visit there. I've only been once onto the American continent and it was South, in Argentina. It's far away from home but exciting...From what I've heard, Mexico is a nice place and the rally well organised. The stages are meant to be wide and fast with a good surface. I also know the city of Guanajuato is very pretty and that ceremonial start held there is a real fiesta!"

For your first two rounds behind the wheel of a WRC, you clearly announced you were targeting the finish and gaining experience. Is this still the case in Leon or on a surface you better know can you be a bit more ambitious?

"For me the most important was and is to gain experience. In three rallies, I had several `first times'! Fist time on a WRC, first time on snow, first time in Sweden and now first time in Mexico and on gravel with a WRC. We will start at a good but controlled pace on the first day and see how it goes. I am confident to improve my times on the second passage in the stages if I have good pacenotes and keep focused."
