Martin Prokop achieved second in the Rally Deutschland

Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek, the crew of Czech Ford National Team, achieved second position in the Rally Deutschland after an impressive battle for the win with Patrik Sandell and P-G Andersson. In the S-WRC rankings Prokop remains third, but he has reduced the gap to the leading pair.

S2000 category featured a spectacular, weekend-long fight between Patrik Sandell, Martin Prokop and P-G Andersson. Two Swedes behind the wheels of Skodas Fabia S2000 and Czech driver of Ford Fiesta S2000 have been fighting for the best possible results during the whole weekend.

The crew of Czech Ford National Team, Martin Prokop and Jan Tomanek, started the final leg of the rally from the third positions. However they were just 5.8 seconds off the provisional leader P-G Andersson and 1.2 seconds off the tentative runner-up Patrik Sandell. Well, all of these drivers wanted to win. And everything could happen...

The first moment occurred already in the opening special stage. P-G Andersson heavily landed behind a horizon and damaged a rim of his Skoda. He had to stop in the SS and change the wheel. Andersson lost about 3 minutes and dropped out of the fight for victory. In the second special stage of the day Martin Prokop experienced his moment. He did a mistake in the corner and had to recede. He lost about 4 seconds and his loss to Sandell increased to 5.0 seconds. Before the last special stage in the centre of Trier Prokop was 3.3 seconds off leading Sandell. In the short super special stage it was impossible for Martin Prokop to outdrive Sandell and he had to reconcile with the second place.

Martin Prokop: "The second position isn't a bad result, but I am disappointed. In Germany we wanted to win, but we failed. Before the start of the final leg it was obvious, that all of three leading drivers would push hard, so everything could happen. P-G Andersson was unlucky already in the first morning special stage and dropped out of the battle. In the following special stage we did a mistake and lost about 4 seconds. This little mistake decided, because Sandell didn't do any mistake.

We met our expectations only partly, because we defeated Xevi Pons, but we wanted to win and gain even more points. However, until the end of the season still remain several rounds and we don't give up our fight for the S- WRC title. We still have a chance to gain it."

S-WRC continues with its eighth round in Japan (September 10/12).
