OMV Kronos Citroen WRT asserts fourth place
The OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team has reason to be content with the second day of the "Rallye de France - Tour de Corse". Francois Duval/Patrick Pivato (Bel/Fra) secured their fourth opverall place right to the finish of the leg despite several problems. Manfred Stohl was less fortunate. The 35-year-old Austrian lost over 17 minutes on one special stage alone due to problems with the petrol pressure which had him drop back from tenth to 24th overall place.
Fourth place is the limit
On the morning of the second day Francois Duval was able to assert his fourth overall place in regard to Subaru works driver Petter Solberg (Nor) and Jari-Matti Latvala (Fin/Ford Focus WRC). But on the last two special stages problems with the gearbox had the Belgian OMV driver work up quite a sweat. Duval: "I had to switch from wheel-gear-change to manual gear change. And the brakes didn't work correctly either. In the end I just wanted to make it across the finish line." The lead on Latvala diminished to 2,4 seconds. But the OMV Kronos Citroen World Rally Team is nevertheless confident to be able to defend fourth place on Sunday.
Manfred Stohl moved up into the top-10 right on the first special stage of the day. But his confidence soon waned and the slippery conditions made life difficult for the fourth-placed of the FIA World Rally Championship 2006. The problems culminated on SS 11. Stohl: "Suddenly we didn't have any petrol pressure. We tried everything but it was probably a connection problem. In the end we lost over 17 minutes on this special stage. It was surely not what I had expected but these things happen. I'm not angry. It is much more important to regain my confidence." The OMV driver dropped back from tenth to 24th place.
Loeb breaks slightly away on second leg
Sebastien Loeb (Fra/Citroen C4 WRC) was able to slightly break away on the second leg of the Rallye de France - Tour de Corse. After twelve of 16 special stages he currently lies 27,5 seconds ahead of Marcus Gronholm (Fin/Ford Focus WRC). Loeb won five of six special stages which means that he was 22,5 seconds faster on Saturday than his Finnish opponent. Daniel Sordo (Spa/Citroen C4 WRC) secured third place but lies already one minute behind his teammate.
