Hyundai privateer Jussi Välimäki will be nominated as the third points-scoring car for the Korean manufacturer during the Swedish Rally, the second round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

Sweden will be his first WRC event of the year but he will already have contested the Arctic Lapland Rally in northern Finland, taking place the same weekend as Rallye Monte Carlo, on which he finished second on the podium in 2002. This year he will be looking to better his result and the rally will act as an excellent test in preparation for Sweden.

The rising Finnish youngster will be driving a privately entered Hyundai Accent WRC". He has contested the Swedish Rally on three occasions before, his best result being 18th in 2002.

Jussi commented, "This is a great opportunity for me. We have already had a good test and after the Arctic Rally I know it will feel much better. Obviously my plan is to get to the finish in Sweden but I will drive as fast as I can from the beginning - this is the reason why we are doing the Arctic Rally. The Accent feels really good - it is actually one of the easiest cars I have ever driven so I am pretty confident. It would be nice to make a surprise on some of the factory drivers!"

David Whitehead, MSD Managing Director and Hyundai World Rally Team Principal added, "We've chosen to nominate Jussi in Sweden because of his local expertise and familiarity with the conditions. We hope he will have great season in the Accent and we will judge future rallies on an event by event basis."

Following his first WRC outing, Jussi will contest eight further rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship with co-driver Tero Gardemeister in Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Finland, Italy, Corsica, Spain and Great Britain.
