Davies was forced to sit out the second race at Misano after being hit by Jonathan Rea's Kawasaki in a nasty accident in the opening race at the Italian track which resulted in the Welshman sustaining a fracture of the transverse process of the third lumbar vertebra and a contusion of the left thumb.
However, in the following days, Davies' Ducati team communicated that he would be undergoing intense physiotherapy in a bid to allow him to race at Laguna Seca, and that a comeback at the American track was likely.
Now it has been confirmed that Davies has travelled to the United States, and will seek clearance from the championship's Medical Director to be able to compete at the Californian track.
"I’ve been doing physiotherapy everyday for the past two weeks, and my conditions have constantly improved," said Davies. I feel generally pretty good, and the back is not bothering me particularly.
"We just need to wait for the official ‘thumbs up’ from the medical staff.
"Maybe I’ll be a bit limited physically, but if we manage to find a comfortable setup that allows the bike to hit the marks without forcing too much we can aim high, so I’m confident.”
Davies lies third in the World Superbike championship standings, 111 points behind leader Rea with six rounds remaining of the season.
