Jerez WSBK: Sykes leads dominant Kawasaki 1-2 in qualifying

The championship leader was the early pacesetter of the session as him and Sykes only did one flying lap each before pitting.

Rea's benchmark was quickly lowered during the late flyers, first by Honda duo Michael van der Mark and Nicky Hayden.

However, Hayden could not hold on to first for long as Sykes went nearly a second quicker than him.

Rea's time was four tenths off but he still managed to take second with Davide Giugliano edging out Alex Lowes for third by just 0.003s.

Hayden ended up fifth ahead of Chaz Davies and Superpole 1 participant Jordi Torres, the latter two setting identical times.

Xavi Fores was eighth, followed by Yamaha's Sylvain Guintoli and MV Agusta's Leon Camier.

Van der Mark dropped as low as 11th despite being less than two tenths behind fifth place.
