Bostrom pole position in South Africa
Ducati rider Ben Bostrom takes the first pole position of his World Superbike career at the Kyalami circuit in South Africa while Michelin's Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) and Colin Edwards (Castrol Honda - Michelin) both achieve front row grid positions for Sunday's two exciting 25-lap races.

Bostrom repeated his Friday performance by setting the fastest time of the weekend, at 1m 41.689s, edging out Bayliss after a thrilling Superpole final qualifying position held in searing 28-degree heat at the 2.65-mile circuit.

Bayliss - who celebrated his 32nd birthday yesterday - used his Michelin Superpole rear tyre to the maximum, moving from ninth place in official qualifying to top the leader board with a time of 1m 41.918s. It was only Bostrom - the last rider to go in Superpole who could topple Bayliss.

Edwards remained in confident mood after Superpole. His third place, with a time of 1m 42.199s, kept the defending champion happy - happy in the knowledge that his constant race pace on a Michelin rear tyre he tested extensively at Kyalami in January will put him in contention to repeat last year's double victory at the undulating circuit on the outskirts of Johannesburg.

Championship leader Troy Corser on an Aprilia was fourth fastest to complete the front row of the grid. Double wild card race winner from 2000 and World Superbike regular on 2001 Neil Hodgson leads the second row on his GSE Ducati while Tady Okada (Castrol Honda - Michelin) put in his fastest lap of the weekend to qualify in sixth place, with a time of 1m 42.789s.

Bayliss's team-mate, hard-riding and hard-charging Spaniard, Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) will start from 10th place in the two Kyalami races.
