Troy Corser led the way with the fastest time in Friday's first qualifying session for the opening round of the World Superbike championship at Valencia in Spain.
Aprilia rider Corser edged out Japanese Kawasaki rider Hitoyasu Izutsu into second place while Ruben Xaus (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin) was third, alongside his team-mate Troy Bayliss (Ducati Infostrada - Michelin).
Reigning world champion Colin Edwards (Castrol Honda - Michelin) was ninth after set-up problems with his new team-mate Tady Okada (Castrol Honda - Michelin) 13th after the experienced Japanese rider ran out of time to use a soft compound, Michelin Superpole rear tyre.
Pere Riba set the fastest time in the opening qualifying session for the World Supersport championship round as he and Ten Kate Honda team-mate Fabien Foret completed a 1-2.
Karl Muggeridge on a Suzuki was third fastest with Piergiorgio Bontempi, now Yamaha-mounted, fourth. Vittoriano Guareschi (Dienza Ducati Racing - Michelin Pilot) was fastest in the Friday morning free practice and finished the day in eighth place.
