SuperPole is perhaps one of the most exciting ways of setting up qualifying. The top 16 qualifiers go head to head on a one-lap, fastest-rider-takes-all shoot-out. After the top riders qualify on Friday and Saturday, their qualifying times set them up for the order in which they will compete in SuperPole.

With Garry McCoy at the top of the sheets, James Toseland went to work on dethroning the Australian. The Ducati Corse rider not only successfully completed the task, but was the first rider to get into the 1:26 second range, with a time of 1:26.9. Steve Martin, Friday's top qualifier, took the top spot from Toseland with another 1:26.9 (1:26.912).

Troy Corser did not manage to get into the 1:26 range, but his time was quick enough for third place on the grid. Even championship leader, Regis Laconi was not able to beat Corser, only managing fourth.

Chris Vermeulen took third spot from Corser, relegating him to fourth, as he was the third rider to break into the 1:26 range, with a time of 1:26.897. Noriyuki Haga suffered from some type of mechanical issue. Not only did it keep him from putting in a good performance in SuperPole, it even threw him off on his cool-off lap.

Steve Martin was the big winner at SuperPole, as Pier-Francesco Chili was only able to go fourth fastest, relegating Corser farther back to fifth.
