Ten Kate Honda make further progress during testing at Misano.
The Ten Kate Honda team travelled direct from Monza, after Sunday's victorious race, to testing at Misano. The Santa Monica circuit will host the eighth round of the World Supersport championship on 23 June.
Ten Kate Honda were keen to test their Pirelli tyres at a circuit that has proved very hard on rubber in the past. They also spent time trying out some development parts for the Honda CBR600FS motorcycles that have proved so successful again this year.
"The two days we spent here have been very valuable," commented Team Manager Ronald ten Kate. "We've set an excellent pace, although that wasn't what we came here for. We were more interested in experimentation and endurance testing tyres, rather than beating lap records. The weather has been extremely hot, and this has helped us to gather a host of important experience and data ready for the next race at Silverstone, and of course the forthcoming meeting here in late June. Both riders did a mock race distance during the test, and I'm happy to report that their times would have been good enough to have won the race here last year."
The riders, Fabien Foret and Iain MacPherson were also happy with their progress over the two days. "I still felt a little tired after my big crash at Monza," admitted Foret, "so I only did a half day on Tuesday. But on the second day I felt better and worked very hard with the team to get the most from this test."
"For me this is catch up time," said MacPherson. "I'm basically doing the work that I would normally have done before the season. But as I only joined the team a few days prior to the first race, these tests are essential for me if I am to get the bike suited to my particular riding style. I'm happy to report that we've made plenty of progress here in just two days."
The Ten Kate Honda team must now pack up and head for Silverstone, for the first ever World Supersport race at the English track on 26 May.
