Can Germany win this time around?
GERMANY VERSUS SPAIN: ALL OVER AGAIN
Germany's national football team may have tasted defeat against Spain in the UEFA Cup final on Sunday, but in less than a month's time the Germans have a chance to get their revenge.
BMW will go head-to-head against Spanish manufacturer Seat at Britain's round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), which takes place at Brands Hatch from 26/27 July. Seat is currently leading the championship with 138 points, but BMW is not far behind on 117. By the time they get to Brands Hatch, the on-track battle will be just as intense as anything seen on the football pitch.
Leading the charge for BMW is Britain's Andy Priaulx, who has won the FIA WTCC title for the past three seasons. He will have a busy weekend at Brands Hatch, because as well as racing his regular BMW 320si he will also be demonstrating a BMW Sauber Formula 1 car on Sunday, after a practice run on Saturday.
"The WTCC at Brands Hatch promises to be another great weekend," he said. "It's always a highlight for me to race in front of my home crowd, and I'm looking forward to giving the fans something to cheer about, both in the WTCC races and the F1 car. This is an amazing time for the BMW Sauber F1 Team and to have the chance to show the fans an F1 car at Brands is a real treat for me and them. The noise will be phenomenal and it promises to be a real spectacle."
As well as the Spanish armada of Seats, Priaulx will have to beat two other British favourites on home territory: James Thompson, driving a Honda, and Chevrolet's Rob Huff. Thompson was a close second at Brands Hatch last year, while Huff recently underlined his intentions by clinching his first race win of 2008.
For a titanic battle amongst home-grown heroes, plus the re-match between Germany and Spain, not to mention the sights and sounds of a Formula 1 car, Brands Hatch at the end of July is the place to be.
