BMW gets 2010 WTCC season underway with a new line-up.

Munich, 1st March 2010. The sixth season of the FIA World Touring Car Championship since 2005 kicks off this weekend in Curitiba (BR). BMW Team RBM will contest the opening two races of its 2010 campaign at the "Autodromo Internacional de Curitiba". The two BMW works drivers, Augusto Farfus (BR) and Andy Priaulx (GB), will line up for their first WTCC season as team-mates. With 27 victories between them, they are the most successful driving duo in the history of the championship. They will be behind the wheel of the BMW 320si WTCC, with which Priaulx won two of his three Drivers' Championships in 2006 and 2007.

In total, 21 drivers are registered for the 2010 season. Alongside Farfus and Priaulx, six BMW privateers will also take their places on the grid in BMW 320si WTCC cars. The new points system for the World Touring Car Championship will make its debut in Curitiba. In the future, every driver in the top ten will be rewarded with World Championship points. The winner will score 25 points instead of 10, as was the case before.

Bart Mampaey (Team Principal):

"The season immediately presents us with a challenge. The circuit in Curitiba has some nice flowing fast sections, but also a high braking zone that leads into a chicane. The high altitude of almost 930 metres means all the engines lose power. The cars are given a firm set-up, in order to remain stable in high-speed corners and take as much speed as possible into the straights. At the same time, the cars must be able to cope with bumps on a surface that in places is uneven. The whole team is highly motivated to get the 2010 World Touring Car Championship off to a successful start."

Augusto Farfus (Car Number 10):

"Curitiba is my home town. Very few drivers in the world are fortunate enough to be able to sleep in their own bed during a World Championship race weekend. It goes without saying, however, that you do feel extra pressure as the local boy, but this is outweighed by the positive feeling of knowing that thousands of people are rooting for you in the stands. I am looking forward to my first race for BMW Team RBM. Everyone in the team is very ambitious. We are all doing everything in our power to achieve our joint goal. I have been made to feel very at home, and am convinced that we will be competitive right from the first race."

Andy Priaulx (Car Number 11):

"I can hardly wait for the new season to finally get underway. We are well prepared and convinced we will be in good form at the curtain-raiser in Curitiba. We will need to be, as it is essential to get off to a good start in this tight field. Right from the word go we must take every opportunity to score points. The competition is at least as fierce as last year. I like Curitiba. The circuit requires a flowing driving style, and is technically demanding. What's more, the atmosphere in Brazil is amazing."
