The 21-year-old started his career with Campos Racing in 2014 in the first year of the new TC1 technical regulations, though that year the rookie competed in the swansong year of the TC2T generation cars, driving a SEAT León 1.6T in the second class.
Filippi has remained with Campos Racing ever since, with title sponsorship from Oscaro, a Paris-based car parts company.
He drove a TC1-spec Chevrolet RML Cruze TC1 in 2015 and 2016.
“I am very happy to announce that I will be driving again next season in the WTCC,” said Filippi on social media.
Although further details on his programme haven’t been announced, it’s believed Filippi, who has a best WTCC finish of eighth to his name, will continue to compete with Campos Racing in a Chevrolet Cruze.
Alongside Volvo, Honda and privateer Citroen and Lada entries, this marks a potential five brands on the grid again for 2017.
