Huff demoted to back of the grid for first Nurburgring race
May 27, 2016, 9:04 AM

Honda driver Rob Huff will be forced to start the opening WTCC race of the weekend at the Nurburgring from the back of the grid, after the team was forced to change his engine following Free Practice 2.

The Briton crashed out in the final minutes of the session at the first turn with a mechanical issue, hitting the barrier with the front of his Civic WTCC.

The team has applied for an engine change, which relegates him to the back of the grid for the opening race. He will start from wherever he qualifies for the main race.

Huff joins Volvo driver Fredrik Ekblom in having to start at the back.

The Swede’s car experienced an engine problem during Free Practice 1 on Thursday, and was forced to return to the pits.

Polestar Cyan Racing made the decision to change the engine, which will put the 45-year-old at the back of the grid for the first race - although, like Huff, his grid position still counts for the main race.
