Team Aon Ford Focus driver James Nash scored tenth place finishes in both of Sunday’s World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) races at the Salzburgring in Austria.

The results meant that Nash added two more World Championship points to his season tally on a race weekend that had initially frustrated him when he could only qualify 13th following an interrupted Qualifying session on Saturday afternoon.

Underlining Nash’s feeling of frustration was the fact that both in the Sunday morning warm-up and in the opening race he managed to set the sixth-best lap time of all.

Nash enjoyed clean starts in both races. The highlight of the opening race was a five-way battle for eighth place with the BMW’s of Tom Coronel, Hungarian race two winner Norbert Michelisz, his teammate Gabor Weber and Franz Englster

In the second race after falling back in the opening laps Nash gradually recovered to lie tenth place on the final lap as others paid the price for perhaps pushing their tyres too hard and suffered punctures.

James Nash: “ This weekend has been mentally challenging. I’m happy to finish with points in both races after a disappointing qualifying where for a variety of reasons we didn’t deliver a result anything near to the level of our potential.”

“The best thing though this weekend for me is that it has highlighted some key areas we’ve been working on and areas which we know we can develop further.”

“Unfortunately such has been the schedule of the WTCC in recent weeks that we haven’t been able to get all the development work done as quickly as we’d like. It Pg 2/2 does though show us that we are moving in the right direction with the car and will definitely give us focus for the future.”
