Heavy Points, Key Objective For The Cruzes In Okayama After Qualifying
Huff (3rd), fastest among front-wheel drive cars Menu (7th) and Muller (8th) ideally placed for Race 2
OKAYAMA, 30th October 2010 It was a well-fought qualifying session today in Okayama, which ended with the three Cruzes in the top eight. Rob Huff was third-fastest and the best among front-wheel drive cars, while Alain Menu and Yvan Muller took the 7th and 8th best times, respectively.
With these results, the Chevrolet drivers, who were satisfied with how the set-up and balance worked out on the Cruzes on this very demanding track, are well positioned for both races tomorrow, which will certainly be interesting, as tire consumption will play a key role and rain may be an additional variable.
The objective for the Chevrolet team is to gain as many points as possible to protect the leading position in both the Manufacturers' and Drivers' championships ahead of the WTCC grande-finale in Macau.
* QUOTES
Rob Huff (3rd): "I am very pleased with my result, there was little more we could do against the rear-wheel drive cars in such a circuit. My first run in Q2 was a very good and faultless lap, the team did a very good job in finding the right balance for the car. For sure, the gaps are wider than expected but we need to see how things will evolve tomorrow, especially if it rains which it seems is going to happen any minute. It's already a little bit damp out there, typical British weather, so feel like at home!".
Alain Menu (7th) : "I am happy with my qualifying. For sure, you always think that you could have gained a little tenth here and a little tenth there, but I don't think this would have changed much. The car feels good and I think we have found a good balance. Still, this track is very tough for the front tires, this will certainly be the key factor tomorrow, especially if it is dry and towards the end of the races, but we can certainly aim to some heavy points".
Yvan Muller (8th): "It was a frustrating qualifying session for me, as my 2 fast run attempts in Q2 were ruined by small mistakes. I don't think we could have been at the very top today but I certainly could have been in a higher position in the time sheets. It is important now to prepare a good strategy for the races tomorrow".
