Tiago Monteiro is getting ready for the races at Oschersleben

After a month's break, the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) heads into the SEAT rival's home stretch this week on the German circuit at Oschersleben. While getting ready for the 8th meeting of the season, Tiago Monteiro explained what he was expecting from these last five race weekends.

"I know that the conditions are quite good for us to have a good result at Oschersleben. It's a circuit that I like and which we are generally competitive on," Tiago declared, recalling the fact that he scored points at Oschersleben last year despite being handicapped by 35 kg of ballast following his podium finish at Anderstorp.

"In addition, I am very motivated. A month without races always makes you really feel a lot like driving. My main objective is to get into the front places and to have a good race pace. To do this, qualifying has to go well, and that will be the first challenge of the weekend because we have already seen that one tenth can be enough to throw you off the lead cars. But I am confident, my car is efficient and SEAT Sport is doing really good work and controlling the different parameters."

For SEAT Sport, the desire is increased tenfold by wanting to outshine BMW in its own back yard, and that includes its drivers who claim to be very confident. Just like the previous races, we therefore have to expect to go through an extremely competitive weekend at Oschersleben. BMW knows that to have a chance of staying in the title race, it will have to win races, and disrupt the plans of SEAT Sport, who is leading both championships.

The Spanish Team can count on Tiago, one of its only two drivers to have won two races this year. The Portuguese driver said his status will not put too much pressure on him.

"Having won two races actually gives me more motivation, and helps me to forget some difficult moments I have gone through this season. The WTCC is one of the most competitive and tough world championships there is, and the advantage that SEAT Sport has built by the sweat of its brow has been worn down by a few race incidents where we were innocent victims, but we're not throwing in the towel! The work of the whole team gives confidence to its drivers. That was the case last week at Nogaro, where we worked on the mid/long term evolutions"

Tiago Monteiro was in the South of France for a day of tests, where SEAT Sport's attention was directed to collecting data on new features which will not see service in Germany yet.

Weather forecasts for Oschersleben call for sun throughout the weekend, and warm temperatures, with highs of 25C on Saturday (August 30) and 28C on Sunday (August 31), which hints at possible rapid tyre-degradation.

The Oschersleben races will be rebroadcast by Eurosport, with Saturday's qualifying at 2:00 PM, and both races will be live on Sunday at 10:45 AM and 2:00 PM.
